Michael and I completed the walk-through of our new house on Friday night. It took about and hour and half, but only because 90% of that was spent sitting and talking with the current owner. I told him that he was welcome to stay and live with us. He said, "Thank you, but my daughter has preference." Too cute.
The owner's son-in-law was working on the repairs to the house, including
those to the outside, and he's doing a really nice job. The flooring they chose for the bathrooms is perfect - totally neutral. It kinda looks like this:
So, considering we're eventually going to remodel both bathrooms, this will do just fine for now. They also replaced the shower pan and the last couple horizontal rows of shower tile.
In talking with the son-in-law, the owner's daughter is coming into town this Friday, which means we probably won't be getting our keys until after next weekend. This is all right because it gives us more time to get everything packed up. Plus we'll need a day or so after we do get the keys to transfer all our stuff 1.4 miles to the new place, and I want to clean our place for the new owners. As our realtor says, "Everyone in these two transactions likes each other, so no one is going to be kicking anyone out on the street."
We are both really excited to be moving into such an awesome house in such an awesome neighborhood. It's taken a while to even seem like it's really true. We've lived in this house* for over 8 1/2 years and after that long it seems strange to leave. But I can't wait to say goodbye!
*My pet peeve: Contrary to popular belief, our current house is not a condo. It's an "attached house," the same classification as a duplex. In fact, ours is a triplex. We own our own lot and are responsible for the structure, just as in a non-attached home.
