The Sling is Slung

Saturday, August 09, 2008

Friday's visit to the doctor's office yesterday yielded positive news (as long as you don't ask Michael). The doctor said he no longer has to wear the sling and there appears to be good bone growth. There's still a gap at one of the break points, and the artificial bone grafting material was rejected but the hardware is still in place and doing its job.

Michael was disappointed because he's still on strict orders to not use his right arm. He can move it from the elbow, but not from the shoulder. Yesterday evening, however, he realized that just the effort of holding up his own arm was harder than he expected. The muscles are weak and the extra pull it places on his collar bone is uncomfortable. I'm convinced that this is an exercise in patience for Michael, but we're still waiting for that virtue...
