Another couple weeks have passed and it’s feeling like home. Merlin has finally realized that this house is way cooler than the last one and is more comfortable than I expected he ever would be. Last Monday (August 20) Michael gave him access to the house and the backyard by leaving the door from the house to the garage ajar. I was admittedly a little stressed out about this – what if he escaped or went crazy tearing everything up? When Michael got home, he cut the bike’s engine and coasted up the driveway so that he could sneak in and see the dog in action. Turned out to be inaction. He walked in the front door… no dog… looked into the kitchen and through to the family room… no dog… looked through the kitchen window to the yard… there was Merlin rolling around in the grass like he was in canine heaven. Sheesh!
The next day we tried it again just to verify that it wasn’t some sort of fluke. I got home early this time and the dog was in the yard again, pleased as could be. That evening we went out and bought and installed a dog door. Since then, he’s been happier at home than going out with us. Who would have ever imagined that this codependent dog would ever “find himself?” Thank goodness he did, nonetheless. Now we can leave for long workdays, or evenings out, and not worry about him barking or attacking the wretched miniblinds.
Speaking of blinds, I replaced the ones in the living/dining room with lovely satiny curtains. I even installed the curtain rods myself. Yay me. They look quite nice and much better than tacky aluminum miniblinds. I also moved the low priority boxes to the spare bedrooms so that the main living area of the house feels more comfortable. We even had friends over for dinner last Friday night!
Michael installed my pendant light over the breakfast table and increased the ambience tenfold. We plan on installing a ceiling fan in the living room and that will improve not only the appearance, but also the airflow in that room which is much needed.
Tonight Michael’s going to Home Depot to get my new lawnmower and weed whacker. :o) And after I get back from the gym, we’re heading out to Lowe’s to buy/order several new appliances – washer/dryer, dishwasher, and – this is the best one – a convection oven/convection microwave combo. It’s going to be awesome! We’ll have to save more money in order to remodel the kitchen like we want to (a complete overhaul), but there’s nothing stopping us from getting the appliances and enjoying them in the meantime.
Tomorrow I’ll get to mow the lawn – just in time, too. It was threatening to take over the backyard! And Michael will get to install some shelves in the garage. This will enable me to transfer stuff from the boxes in the house to translucent bins in the garage. And it will enable Michael to organize his tools and then build me the cabinet I want to put under the TV to hold the DVR and XBox.
