Surgery went well. Dr. James removed the previous hardware (which we get to keep!) and installed a longer titanium rod with 9 screws (2 more than the last). He said that, while Michael's unauthorized activities certainly helped move the screws, the bone was pretty soft. Unfortunately, when one of the screws came out, it started to form a new fracture, so now there's some bone graft material in there.
Michael's learned his lesson (so far) and is consciously counting down each day in the next six weeks. He has strict orders to stay non-weight-bearing for the duration. If he doesn't, he forfeits fun for a long, long time. The bad news, for me anyway, is that while he's down, he becomes a great big nag and asks things of me that only someone with 8 arms and a 48 hour day can do.
I might pick up some sleeping pills and slip him one every so often.
