Michael's visit to the orthopedist on May 19 was uneventful. The new x-ray of his collar bone showed no signs of improvement and looked nearly identicle to the x-rays taken in the ER. The doctor said that he wanted to see Michael again in two weeks and, if still no significant healing, might talk about surgery. He also prescribed a more effective pain killer.
Fortunately, the past several days have yielded signs of healing - albeit painful - so I'm hopeful that tomorrow's appointment will be good. It will be nice to look forward to a husband on crutches and not having to always have a wheelchair in the trunk of my car.
In other news... I've gotten a promotion. On Wednesday I went for an interview at another department. I felt it went really well - wasn't nervous or anxious and wasn't stressed while waiting to hear from them. On Thursday morning they were calling my references and by noon that day I had the job. My new title is Administrative Services Officer and I start on June 23 - barely enough time to finish everything at my current department.
My manager is very sad, and not just because she has to fill my position. I'm very pleased to say that I'm leaving that office far better than I found it. Most of my nearly 2.5 years has been dedicated to improving procedures, teamwork and morale and I have succeeded on all fronts. I can only hope that the trend continues once I'm gone. My employees are disappointed, too, that I'm leaving and I know they're nervous about who will be their new boss. I will be helping to interview and I will do what I can do ensure that a quality person is hired - someone that will advocate for them as well as maintain the department's business needs.
I learned a lot about Workers' Comp but am happy to say that in my new capacity, I'll be the liaison between my new department and WC and so will interact with my old coworkers quite frequently. I think it will work out splendidly.
