Tomorrow I go back to work for a good part of the day, but then have to take Michael to the orthopedist for his consult. Although his appointment is not until 3:15, I'll probably get home some time around 1:30 so we'll have lots of time to get him to the car.
It was interesting getting him in the house after the ER. They tried to procure a wheelchair for him but couldn't find any that were available (not that we had room in the Jeep - even though it's the Unlimited model, there was already the bike and the dog filling up the back). The nice traveling nurse from Alabama found a walker for us, though and, after Michael demonstrated that he could put all his weight on it while sliding his good leg forward, they let us go home. Nonetheless, it was still a challenge. To go in the front door, the walk is longer but there are only two steps, each with plenty of space in between for stabilizing. To go in the garage, it's shorter but there are four steps and each are close together. Michael chose to go through the latter. Using the walker, he made it to the first step and managed to sit down. He then slowly hoisted himself up one step at a time until the last one where I then drug him into the family room. After a rest, I helped him to a standing position and he used the walker to slowly get to the bedroom.
I picked up his office chair from his work last Thursday and he's been rolling around the house on it. So getting him to the car for the appointment should be easier. We can use the chair to roll him to the car. Walker to the chair, chair to the car. They'll have a wheelchair for us at the office.
I'm looking forward to hearing what the surgeon has to say. Michael's drugs will be working well at 3:30 so the doctor could tell him anything and he'd be fine with it.
Oh, that reminds me. I looked up side effects for hydrocodone last night and Michael fortunately only has a few out of the long list. The funniest one was "exaggerated sense of well being." Yep, that explains it! And where can I get me some of those? Never mind, someone has to be realistic!
Besides things have to get done around here and I suspect they wouldn't if I was also on happy pills. Either that, or the vacuuming and mopping I just finished would have been much more fun. I wonder how entertaining dusting could be...
